When I was searching through different school magazine contents pages, I found I liked this one in particular. It has got all the conventions I want for my contents page.
The two images make the page appear interesting whereas some others I researched were rather dull. Also the pictures are clearly pupils which relate to the school environment.
I really like how the page numbers are put in bold writing to guide pupils to the correct page, as they are bigger than the actual writing they stand out to avoid confusion.
I also like how the magazine has a ‘top story’ because it is much more interesting compared to others. This section takes up a significant part of the page therefore stating that it is a very important part in the magazine.
The background is minimalistic and doesn’t draw attention away from the main topics, this is important when thinking about creating my contents as I want all of my readers attention on the actual topics in he magazine.
The font is very consistent throughout, it varies slightly on the ‘top story’ and the page numbers are significantly larger. This makes the magazine look very professional.
One of the things I do not like about this example is that there is no school logo on the page, I think there should be a logo on every page as it keeps a professional look all the way through.
I also don’t particularly like the dull colour scheme, keeping with the 3-part colour scheme would allow room for another brighter colour - the same as the school logo perhaps?
Overall I do like this contents page mainly because of the simplicity of it. Its not too over the top. I will use some of the conventions for my contents page too.
