As I have been looking at all mainstream magazines I think it is important to look at another type of mag, aimed at a more niche audience and therefore is narrowcasted(the dissemination of imformation to a narrow audience) rather than broadcasted as NME is. Shindig! sells just 26,000 copies a month compared to Top of the Pops which sells hundreds of thousands, this is due to the fact that it only covers around 4-5 genres of music, these include: psychedelia, mod, garage and beat. Another reason this magazine does not sell many copies is because of the price and number of issues it releases. Shindig! sells the magazines at £4.95 per issue and publishes just 6 issues per year, the cost would be a massive problem as it would cause limited sales whereas NME publishes many more copies and sells them at a lower price.
